The raising of the pension age for women starts this April and will gradually rise from 60 years to 65 years by 2020. After that it will rise to 67 years. The rise from 65 to 67 will effect men as well. This will not only mean that you will not be paid your pension from the age of 60 but all the other 'perks', such as bus passes, heating allowance etc.
This will also effect men and their 'perks' will be delayed at the same rate as women. To find out when you will get your pension etc go to the following site where you can enter your birthday and get the date when you will be eligible.
Whilst on about age, if you are approaching 70 soon you should be getting a reminder that you are required to renew your driving licence. You should receive the renewal notice from the DVLA about 90 days before you reach 70. Be aware though that they could forget to send it to you, mine was due earlier this month and not yet arrived.
If you do not get a reminder you can get the form D1 (Driving Licence application form) from the Post Office and submit that. At the moment the renewal is free.
Also for those who have the new type of driving licence with a photo on, just check the date of expiry.... This applies to everyone with this type of licence..
Health check for women. We have received an email on 'ovarian Cancer' Please read the following.
The "CLASSIC" symptoms are an ABDOMEN that rather SUDDENLY ENLARGES and
CONSTIPATION and/or DIARRHEA. If you get any of these ask you doctor for a
CA-125 BLOOD TEST; DO NOT take "NO" for an answer. Your doctor may not known of such a test so you may have to push him/her.

Activity Friends helps people over 50 to become more active through the support of an Activity Friend Volunteer. People may have become inactive for a variety of reasons such as poor health, an illness or operation, family moving away or loss of friends or neighbours. They may lack confidence and not know about what activities are happening locally. An Activity Friend Volunteer is carefully matched with an older person who they encourage and support to become more physically active. This may be walking, yoga, bowling, gardening or dancing. An Activity Friend explores the person’s interests, provides information about activities and accompanies them until they feel able to continue independently. We are looking for volunteers who live in Rushcliffe, are over 50 years old and have at least an hour a week to spare. Volunteers, who are CRB checked, receive training and support from myself and are reimbursed for all expenses incurred whilst volunteering. There are also opportunities to meet with other volunteers, make friends and try out new activities. I attach a summary of the project and leaflet for potential volunteers. If you think you may be able to help or would like further information, please contact Lindsay Knott, Activity Friends Coordinato,r Rushcliffe Community & Voluntary Service, Park Lodge, Bridgford Road, West Bridgford, Nottingham,

ROYAL BRITISH LEGION A message from ex Sgt Peter Dawson
I would be grateful if you would bring to the attention of members of NARPO, many of whom are ex-servicemen that membership of the Royal British Legion is open to all of them.
The object of the RBL is to help those ex-servicemen and women who are in need and the work carried out by members who are all volunteers, is wide ranging and sympathetic.
There are branches in most areas of the city and county and are in easy reach.
The most easily recognisable activity as the annual Poppy Appeal which raises funds for the legion.
New members are always welcome and if 1 can help, please contact me. I would be pleased to hear from you and hopefully put you in contact with your nearest branch.
Yours sincerely
Peter Dawson (ex Sgt) 1 Vesper Court Forest Town Mansfield Notts NG19 0AN
