Phil Whittaker Fund - Target for 2012 £10,000

Your help would be truly appreciated in achieving this ambitious target. If the target was reached….it would mean that ‘WE’ will have raised nearly £88,000 for the Phil Whittaker Fund and donated this amount to Cancer Research UK and Macmillan Cancer Support, since 2002.
How can I help? · You could sponsor a feature of the Charity golf day – (the Hole in One competitions, putting prize, nearest the pins, longest drive etc..) · You could donate a ‘LOT’ to be auctioned – (use of holiday homes, autographed memorabilia, tickets to sporting events, new electrical items, pamper days…) · Donate a quality raffle prize or prizes for the golf competition. You may be able to help as an individual or as a group (your golf team or shift/ section, perhaps), ….or if you have friends, relatives, colleagues with a company or business, they are all welcome to be involved…. Free Advertising Please contact Stuart Kinton AS SOON AS POSSIBLE to discuss the options available who would also welcome any other suggestions.

What else? · You could arrange your ‘own’ sponsored event – the money you raise going towards the £10k target. What sort of things has been done? · Sponsored walks – Kimberley to Cardiff (2006) – Hadrian’s Wall (2007) – Cotswold Way (2009) · Sponsored Marathons and Half Marathons – London –Nottingham –Great North Run - Belfast · Abseiling down West Nott’s Tech & Nottingham Trent University · Bike Rides – Nottingham to Newark & return · Spinning Classes · Sponsored Silence · Diets · Sponsored Golf round · Fashion shows x 5 and proceeds donated · 7 aside football tournaments / Charity Football matches What can be done? · Basically anything you want that will raise money - if there is pain or personal suffering involved, people tend to be more generous! · Walk / climb Mount Kilimanjaro perhaps ..... · Sell raffle tickets for the Golf Day Draw (4000 sold last year – 5000 target this year) When? · The annual donation to the Charities is usually during the autumn ….so you have 9-10 months to put your ideas into action….at a time that is best for you. Is there any support? ·

Rebecca Elphick at Cancer Research UK- rebecca.elphick@cancer.org.uk Tel. 07771 945726 · Helena Monk at Macmillan Cancer Support - hmonk@macmillan.org.uk Tel. 07834 192228. Both contacts are always willing to provide help and assistance and advice on Gift Aid / sponsor forms etc…. Tee shirts / Vests / bunting / balloons etc are always made available for those embarking on a sponsored event. · I am able to discuss any ideas that you may have & advise on how to turn those ideas into action. Results · Hopefully, towards the end of 2012 ‘WE’ will be in a position to hand over cheques to the nominated charities, to the value of £10,000! For any further info or to discuss further please contact ASAP Stuart Kinton 07905 906439 or via email kintonettes@virginmedia.com You know you can make it happen!

Important letter from AXA relating to your NARPO Travel Insurance

Dear Colleague,

Automatic Renewal of AXA Travel Insurance

We will shortly be coming up to the renewal date for the above (1st May) and in an attempt to try and by-pass some of the problems we had at last automatic renewal I would ask if possible that you would consider including something in your next branch newsletter or however you communicate to your branch members. We will also be mentioning it in the next edition of NARPO News. This is a 2 fold exercise. Firstly, It reminds those members not wishing to renew to cancel their Direct Debit Instruction with their bank, but they also need to inform this office (Alan Dockerty on 01924.331256) – if they do not follow this through the money will be automatically taken from the member on the 17th May and policy documents issued by AXA, And Secondly, Any member expecting to automatically renew needs to receive: · A letter from this office which will confirm the new rate (this should be received early April) · A new policy document from AXA (probably to be received around mid to late April Without receipt of these two documents they are quite simply not on the automatic renew data file and they will not be covered for travel insurance, we had some members last year travelling abroad thinking they had been automatically renewed but had not received either of these documents – they were not covered. Reminding them now might just save problems as above but might also save the office time issuing refunds if they didn’t mean to stay in the scheme. For information the new rates from 1st May 2012 to 30th April 2013 will be: · Single £120.00 · Joint £165.00 (Includes single parent) · Family £175.00 The prices include the NARPO administration fee. Many thanks for your assistance with this matter,

Yours sincerely,

Mrs Sue Ward Financial Controller
