It is with regret that we report the recent death of the following NARPO members:
Kenneth John Humphrey, PC 360. Died 27th Feb. Ken served on Northern Division and then moved to Bingham. He retired on health grounds after he fell down steps during a call out to Blotts Night Club. On the day he retired he suffered a serious road accident at West Bridgford.
Ronald Toomey, Police Constable, died 10th February. Ron worked mainly at the Hyson Green/Radford Road Station.
He helped to organize the Stations re-union dos. He supported the Lifeboat Institution (R.N.L.I.) . He died of cancer which was discovered during an operation for another illness.
Sidney Alfred Ball, Pc 589 Nottingham. Died 7th February. Sid joined the City Police and served on Mechanised and South Division. He was the collator at Queens Drive P/S. He was a keen sportsman playing football,cricket and athletics for the Police. Robert John Disney, PC712. Died 5th February 2010. Bob began his career at Mansfield, then Beeston and Hyson Green before being medically retired after being involved in a non stop RTA. He died of lung cancer.
Anthony Frank Saddington, Police Constable Nottinghamshire. Died 1st February. Tony worked mainly in the Newark area and retired from Retford Jessie May Bentley, Police widiw, died 21 January 2010. Mr. Bentley was a retired Chief Inspector and retired
in 1985 from Carlton Police Station. He died in 2006.
George Geoffrey Pearce, Inspector. Died 11th January. Geoff served at Central, Vice Squad, C.I.D, Force Training School, Football Surveillance. He played football for the Police.
William George Homer, ex City Inspector. Died 1st December. Bill was the first Cadet at Tamworth before joining Notingham City Police. He served throughout the City area both in uniform and CID. He rose to the rank of Inspector and ended his service at Beeston.
George Herbert Headland, Police Constable 363, Died 26 November 2009. George served in the Nottingham City Police in uniform.
Towards the end of his career he was in charge of stolen
bikes and was known as ‘George the Bike’ after being on
Radio Nottingham regarding them.
Christine Bailey, wife of Colin Bailey (retired Chief Constable). Died 24th November.
George David Holland, Sgt 1316, Died 19th November. David served at East Bridgford, Stapleford, Worksop and Retford.
Andrew Clarence George Venebales, Pc 730. Died 27th October. Andrew started his career in the City Police, serving on Northern Division before joining Mechanised/Traffic Dept. He served for a time on the boat and the vice squad. He retired through ill health.
Charles Samuel Fitzwalter Read, Det Insp, Nottm City. Died 2nd November. Charles served in the Nottingham City Force mainly in the CID, at Central and No.3 Regional Crime Squad. He also served in the Hong Kong Police in the rank of Superintendent
William Murrin, Pc 440 Nottingham City, died 27th October. Bill served in the City Force mainly on Northern Division and also as a School
Liaison Officer.
